Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and Air Force yellow are the Air Force colors.  Blue alludes to the sky, the primary theater of Air Force operations.  Yellow refers to the sun and the excellence required of Air Force personnel.  The center circle represents the Mediterranean Theater serviced by the Squadron.  The four lightning bolts symbolize the timely information flow in and out of the Squadron.  The globe indicates worldwide service and is depicted in two separate colors to indicate 24-hour service.  The aircraft represents the mission of the Squadron to support Air Mobility Command aircraft moving passengers, cargo and equipment through the en route system.  The unit motto, "Maintaining Freedom," signifies the Squadron's role in sustaining liberty across the globe.  It is also a reference to the Squadron's role in maintaining the flow of Air Mobility Command aircraft and missions through maintenance, aerial port and command and control functions.
